About This Book
In this book, Diane explores how to care for yourself as you care for your neurodivergent child. She has come to appreciate the importance of self-care on this journey as she has learned to live with her own neurodivergence (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). Also, through her professional work as a mental health counselor, she can empathize with the many challenges parents face in raising neurodivergent children. Through interviews with other parents, she identifies common emotions parents grapple with, which she refers to as a grief process. Diane uses the analogy of air travel and "the oxygen mask" to emphasize the importance of prioritizing self-care. As you read, you will arrive at "Gates,” which will help you learn to master strategies and skills to take care of yourself while caring for your neurodivergent child.
